This is certainly the project of baby steps. Yesterday I attached his quilt label and we spent some time in the evening pinning together the quilt sandwich to prepare it for him to machine quilt. He helped me tape down the backing and smooth out the batting and quilt top layers. Then I pinned it and we worked together to put the pinmoors on the pins.
I'm trying to crank out a quilt top finish before the end of the month, so I think I'll be hogging the sewing machine through Friday or Saturday, then I can set him up with the walking foot on the machine for him to do some straight line quilting. He's decided to do echo stitching on either side of his seams (agreeing that stitch in the ditch would be too tricky).

Can't wait to see his quilt in person! I hope I am there when he is there - so fun! He will bursting with pride. My grandson, whom you met when he was a baby and your son was a baby, will be 5 in a few days - so hard to believe they grow up so fast!

Post authorThanks, Bernie. The timing worked out that it was reasonable to submit for the show, which was nice. Hindsight I would have started in December to allow more time if I'd thought about it, but we should be good. My daughter (2 years 9 months now) wants to know why her quilt isn't going to be in the show. (You may have seen her "pattern" in previous posts.) "Well, it's not done, and you didn't do 50% of the work" (stipulation for submitting as a children's project). I've promised her that I'll teach her to make her first quilt in time for the 2017 quilt show (our guild has a show every other year). She seemed pleased with that offer.
